Earlier this spring, our Dawson International Truck Centres (DITC) location in Vernon became the new home for The Salvation Army’s clothing recycling trailer.
The Salvation Army initially approached DITC early in 2024, as they were in search of a new location to house their donation trailer.
“We had a very specific and important need for our program. Having community partners like Dawson International Truck Centres step up to help us out was immensely helpful. Their lot and location are perfect for us,” said Neil Thompson, Salvation Army Corps Director.
Whatever items The Salvation Army cannot sell from their Vernon thrift store, they recycle. The clothing items are stored in a bin on a trailer at Dawson’s location, while they wait for a driver to transport the materials down to the Lower Mainland for further recycling. For the foreseeable future, Dawson’s lot will house the trailer for free.
“The Salvation Army has a long history of supporting communities across Canada and we had enough space to accommodate their needs on our property, so it seemed like a natural fit. They provide a great service to our community, so we are happy to help,” said Charlie Beck, Vice-President of Dawson International Truck Centres and Dawson Idealease.
Each week, a fork-lift trained operator from The Salvation Army arrives at our Vernon location, uses Dawson’s forklift to drop off a new bin, pick up the filled bin and transport the pallets of clothing onto a truck to the Lower Mainland.
