Whether you’re a frequent blood donor, someone that hasn’t donated in a while or you’re thinking about trying it for the first time, your efforts are cherished by the Canadian Blood Services and your donations will save lives.
That’s why Karen Klinger, Accounts Payable with Dawson International Truck Centres and Dawson Idealease located in Vernon, was happy to get in a donating rhythm again after several years away.
“I used to donate for years before I had kids, then it felt like I was too busy at the time. Now that they are much older, I am looking forward to donating more frequently again,” said Klinger, who started with the company 10 years ago.
Klinger was one of 10 participants that registered for Dawson Group’s second annual blood drive this fall.
“I liked having the designated donating times. I have forgotten to donate in the past, so this gave me something to put in my calendar to look forward to and remind me. I think that everyone should find time in their schedule to donate. It takes less than an hour to donate,” said Klinger. “It doesn’t cost any money to donate and you get a few cookies after you’re done – what’s not to like about that?”
This year’s drive matched last year’s total of 10 donations, which has gone on to save up to 60 lives with Canadian Blood Services. Despite Dawson’s contributions, there is still as massive need for whole blood, blood plasma and stem-cell donations.
Donations help all people and blood types.
Dawson Group’s Director of IT, Brian Eshpeter, felt inspired to donate recently after learning about a friend’s 5-year-old son’s leukemia diagnosis. Through stem cell and blood donations from others, the young boy is on the road to recovery. Eshpeter’s story inspired others in Kamloops to donate during a recent lunch hour and he intends on continuing regular donations.
Whether you’re a new donor, an infrequent donor or a regular one, Canadian Blood Services is very thankful for all contributions either during Dawson’s campaign or any other point throughout the year.
