The new leader of Dawson Road Maintenance (DRM) has always had an interest in planes, trains and automobiles – basically anything the gets people from point A to point B. Gord Miller will step into the new role of Vice-President of DRM in June and is looking forward to using his previous experience to lead the company into the future.
“I recognize how important transportation is to our economy and our communities from my previous roles. Keeping our roads safe and in great shape is crucial for this province and I look forward to getting out into the field, working with our amazing team,” said Miller.
In his most recent role of Chief Operating Officer with Seaspan Marine Transportation in Vancouver, Miller was responsible for multiple business lines including Seaspan Marine, Seaspan Ferries, HaiSea Marine and Seaspan LNG. Prior to his time with Seaspan, Gord spent almost 30 years working in the railway transportation industry with both Rocky Mountaineer and CN Rail.
“In my roles, I had the opportunity to lead the operating teams, including engineers, maintenance crews, capital improvement teams building new infrastructure and working with a variety of equipment. My career has centred around solving problems, trying to find ways to do things differently and use the latest technology to help us. I know I can rely on those experiences with upcoming projects and situations at Dawson Road Maintenance,” said Miller.
Miller will be based out of the McGill corporate office in Kamloops, a community he knows well, having lived in Kamloops for 12 years with his family during his time in the railway industry.
“I’m thrilled to be coming back to this new opportunity and challenge,” said Miller. “I think Dawson has a strong foundation and I am looking forward to continuing to build off of that and grow our business.”
Miller comes to Dawson Road Maintenance having worked in many of the areas of the province that he will now oversee. Working various jobs from Prince Rupert to Jasper (Alta.) and to Vancouver, gives him the appreciation for the natural beauty that B.C. offers and the effort it takes to keep our highways safe. He looks forward to exploring even more of our beautiful province in all four Service Areas and the new work opportunities each will bring.
