Dawson Group’s inaugural two-month blood donation campaign wrapped up last month thanks to the generosity of several new donors.
As a team, we totalled 10 donations, which helps (approximately) save 30 lives – inspiring work.
Of Dawson’s 10 donations, seven came from first time donors.
“Thank you, Dawson Group, for making all of the difference to Canada’s Lifeline! New donors are a very welcome sight, seen as eligibility reasons limit a large portion of the Canadian population. Anytime we can bring in a first-time donor, it increases their chances of returning to us as a donor in the future. We need a minimum of 120,000 new donors each year in order to support the needs of our Canadian patients (cancer patients, accident victims and those living with blood disorders). Thank you for your wonderful contribution,” said Niki Randall, Canadian Blood Services Community Development Manager.
Across the board, each of our new donors enjoyed their experience and would recommend donating blood to anyone curious about it in the future.
“I decided to sign up after seeing the information on our Dawson Group Intranet page. I have been thinking about it for a while and knew I had no reason not to provide blood, but just never got around to donating. Registration was easy through our website and booking an appointment was easy. The experience was excellent. Everyone was very professional, friendly and the process will be easier moving forward now that I am registered in the Canadian Blood Services registry and will be receiving my blood donor card in the mail. The snacks at the end were yummy!” said Joel Moore, Health, Safety and Environment Advisor.
“I’ve been intending to do it for quite some time, but always wound up rescheduling because of personal things (tattoos, surgery, piercings, etc.). Luckily, I was eligible when the clinic came around in November and finally donated. I have a fairly rare blood type, so if I can help someone else, then why not?” said Shantel Renner, Service Advisor for Dawson International Truck Centres.
“I decided to give blood to help others. Donating blood is very difficult for people living in northern B.C. For example, people from Prince George need to now travel hours to donate instead of having a local option. The opportunity presented itself to go to the pop-up clinic, so I took advantage of it. I had no complications, so I would do it again.,” said Brenda Fisher, Intermediate Accountant for Dawson Road Maintenance.
Dawson’s blood drive provided an opportunity for previous donors to get involved once again.
“Back when I first started and I was reading the information about how easy donating was and how many lives it impacts, it was a no-brainer. I’ve had friends and family members that unfortunately needed blood for a variety of reasons. It feels good to know that my donation could impact someone that I care about,” said Tyler Lowey, Communications Specialist.
Thank you to everyone who joined team Dawson Group and that found time to donate over the past two months. Dawson will look to make this a reoccurring event in the future.
