Luc Thibault will always hold a special place at Dawson Group. We have chosen to honour his legacy by partnering with the Architectural and Engineering Technology (ARET) program at Thompson Rivers University (TRU) to find a qualified recipient of the Luc Thibault Memorial Award.
After months of thoughtful consideration, Dale Parkes (Chair of the ARET program) determined that Geoff Bourgeau was a worthy recipient of this award. Geoff is a third-year student from Vancouver who is passionate about the outdoors.
“Geoff was one of my favorite students because of his great attitude. He always came to class ready to learn and asked great questions. He was quite encouraging towards other students and often engaged with them students in extracurricular activities, which I know made their time at TRU much better,” said Parkes. “I really appreciate that Dawson Civil has elected to honour Luc this way, as I think the ARET program was an important part of his life.”

This one-time award was a significant financial contribution to assist Geoff with his ongoing studies at TRU, as he wraps up his final two years of studies, before he embarks on a career in the surveying industry.
“It was a fantastic feeling to be recognized with this award and it is something I greatly appreciate. I was also very honoured that Donna was here today to share her story,” said Bourgeau. “After learning that I was selected for this award, I looked up Luc’s story and was a bit overwhelmed learning about the man he was and the impact he made. I am very appreciative and honoured to be selected for this award in his name.”
Thibault was a graduate of TRU’s ARET program in 2016. He spent five years with Dawson Civil, working his way to become the Manager of Surveying. He tragically passed away in a motor vehicle accident on Feb. 9, 2023.
“Luc was an integral part of our operations. He was a leader, lively, engaging, thoughtful, passionate and kind, and we deeply miss him. We thought this award was a fitting way to continue to honour his legacy, both with our company and with the program that educated him,” said Chris Cooper, Manager of Dawson Civil.
This award was established to recognize a top academic student from TRU’s ARET program and was created in memory of Luc Thibault, a bright, dedicated, and talented individual. Luc was a mentor and enjoyed sharing his technical experience. Nominees for this award needed to demonstrate a keen interest in surveying and a commitment to helping others.
