Tarah Buchanan knows what it’s like to be a young, single parent around the holidays. That’s why she is so eager to give back whenever she can.
This year, she teamed up with Dawson Idealease to help brighten the holidays for three different families by partnering with Mamas For Mamas.
“As a single parent, I’m always thinking of their program and the families that rely on them during the holidays. I’m glad Dawson was able to step up and support me on this mission,” said Buchanan, a Rental Leasing Coordinator with Dawson Idealease.
Mamas For Mamas is an organization in B.C. and Alberta designed to offer poverty relief and mental health services for single parents and grandparents looking after children. There is a heightened need for support around the holiday season.
Buchanan took it upon herself to find three families, one in Kamloops, Kelowna and Vernon, to support and spent over 10 hours shopping over the course of one week for everyone. Tanya Targett helped with the wrapping, while Charlie Beck (Dawson International Truck Centres and Idealease Vice President) and John Davies (Dawson Idealease Manager, Kelowna) helped distribute the items.
“We heard back from one family and they had a boy who was dreaming of this Super Mario Brothers Monopoly game. We ended up picking out the right one and he was super excited to open it,” said Buchanan.
Buchanan helps programs like these out when she can, as she is quite busy with two young kids at home. She hopes to make this an annual event and brighten more family’s holidays in the future.
