Dawson Construction added some new hardware to their trophy case, further proving they are one of the top paving companies in the province. They earned the award of Excellence during the B.C. Transportation Contractor of the Year ceremony Dec. 8, in Victoria.
“Our team had a very strong year, worked very hard and accomplished some great projects this season. It takes a full team effort to complete projects like this ahead of schedule. I’m very proud of the work everyone contributed across the company,” said Lenny Kazakoff, Manager of Paving and Aggregates.
For the second time in three years, Dawson Construction earned the Excellence Award from the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure. They previously won the award after completing a significant paving job near 100 Mile House. This year, Dawson Construction earned the award following their asphalt resurfacing project on Highway 97 at Hixon just south of Prince George, from Plett Road to Ewing Road.
More than 54 lane-kilometres of asphalt got laid down. The new highway will be smoother and more sustainable, as Dawson Construction used asphalt that featured 15 per cent recycled materials.
Dawson’s time on the project overlapped with a terrible season of forest fires throughout our beautiful province. In an effort to assist local fire fighters, Dawson Construction paved the parking lot for Hixon’s Volunteer Fire Department. The new parking lot gives crews better access to and from the call of duty.
This massive undertaking was made possible by the exemplary work turned in by Jason Shank (Senior Project Manager), Denny Johnson (Paving Superintendent), Travis Evanoff (Foreman), Amanda Fulton (Lead Estimator), Daniel Indelicato (Paving Plant Foreman), Garrett Blom (Quality Control Manager) and Joe Steensma (Quality Control Inspector), to name a few.
The paving crews have now shifted into the winter offseason, where they will enjoy a much-deserved break. Dawson Construction is already planning new and exciting projects to add to next year’s schedule.
